Question 1 of 11

Who would you live with?

Your household for Universal Credit: you, and a partner if you live together.

This is an estimate, not advice. It uses the official 2026/27 rates from GOV.UK and the Valuation Office Agency, last checked 12 October 2026. What you actually get is decided by DWP or your council, and can depend on things we don't ask about.

Questions people ask

Local Housing Allowance rates are set for each Broad Rental Market Area (BRMA), an area where rents are similar. For 2026/27 the rates are frozen at the levels first set in April 2024. The rate you get depends on your BRMA and how many bedrooms your household is allowed, up to 4.

If you're single, under 35 and have no children, Universal Credit usually only covers the rent of a room in a shared house. You can get more if you're a care leaver under 25, have lived in a hostel for homeless people for at least 3 months, are managed under MAPPA, get PIP daily living, DLA care (middle or highest rate), Attendance Allowance or Armed Forces Independence Payment, or are a victim of domestic abuse or modern slavery.

We show the monthly Universal Credit rates DWP publishes. LHA-Direct shows weekly Housing Benefit rates, so the two don't always convert exactly. If your postcode is near the edge of an area, check it on LHA-Direct too.

This is an estimate, not advice. We use the official 2026/27 rates published on GOV.UK, including the Local Housing Allowance rates, last checked 12 October 2026, and match postcodes to rental areas with the Valuation Office Agency's LHA-Direct. Your real award is decided by DWP (Universal Credit, PIP, ESA, Carer's Allowance) or your council (Housing Benefit). If something can't be worked out from your answers, we say so rather than guess.

Usually not. If you live in supported or sheltered housing, such as a hostel, that gives you care, support or supervision, you claim Housing Benefit from the council for your rent instead. You can still claim Universal Credit for your living costs. Service charges for things like meals, heating, energy in your room or support are usually yours to pay.

No. The calculation runs in your browser and nothing is sent to Roomfy. If you choose to message us on WhatsApp, only the message you send reaches us.
